Candida Diet Snacks

Candida diet snacks are handy to have in the fridge when a person is following a candida diet.

Candida refers to a genus of yeasts that usually is harmless to humans when they are found in small numbers within the digestive tract. The growth of candida is controlled by good bacteria that can be found in the intestines, pH levels and the immune system. When candida growth becomes uncontrollable and increased in the digestive tract, toxins are created that can be absorbed throughout the bloodstream. This causes problems with our immune systems, hormonal balance and can affect every biological system. A common candida infection is a vaginal yeast infection.

There are many things that can cause a candida yeast infection, including the use of antibiotics, oral contraceptives, steroid medications, as well as sugar consumption. The yeast is allowed to grow because these drugs destroy the good bacteria. People with candida often react to foods, chemicals, as well as other things that they come in contact with in their environment. Diabetes, a weak immune system, as well as impaired liver function can encourage candida yeast overgrowth. Some of the symptoms of candida can be found below:

Diet to Control Candida

When a person must follow a diet to control candida, they will have to watch certain foods that they normally eat. They should eliminate refined and simple sugars. Avoiding white, brown, raw sugar, as well as honey and molasses, is a must. Dieters should avoid milk, alcohol, fruit, dried fruit and mushrooms. They should not eat food that contains yeast or mold, such as breads, muffins, cakes, cheese, melons or peanuts. They should increase the amount of fiber that they consume, which can be achieved by adding a tablespoon of soluble fiber to a glass of water for a couple times per day.
