Trail mix is a mixture of high-energy foods that are
eaten as a snack. Many trail mixes include items such as dried
fruit, nuts, chocolate and seeds. Trail mixes can help someone to
lose weight by replacing the sweets and other junk food that people
tend to snack on. Trail mixes are available at the grocery store,
but most of the pre-packaged trail mixes contain a lot of hidden
sugar content, as well as tons of sodium.
A good way to avoid these extra pitfalls is to make
trail mix at home. All you have to do is follow a recipe and in no
time, you will have your own treat. If you make a small amount, you
can pack it in a Ziploc baggie and bring it with you when you are on
the go. If you make a large amount, you should store it in a
plastic, airtight sealed container.
There are many variations when it comes to making trail
mix. Sometimes you can increase or decrease the amount of what you
add to various recipes to fit your needs. Below you will find a
variety of trail mixes that are low-fat or can be made low-fat with
a bit of tweaking on your own. These recipes can be used to
jumpstart your trail mix adventures.
